Review: Sydney City Shootout
Bankstown Golf Club member Denis Beaumont, playing in his first Shootout Golf Championship, outlasted and ultimately out-putted Moore park professional and Shootout regular Max Forrest to win the 2003 Syney City Shootout Championship.
Beaumont, survived a putt-off on the 18th green at the Kogarah Golf Club after his bogey five tied the final hole with Forrest's par four. After guiding his long downhill putt to within a metre of the cup, Beaumont calmly stroked his next putt into the hole to seal the victory.
Greg Coure, the other member of the final threesome, had the chance to take out the title but his downhill attempt from six feet slid by the hole. Coure, a member of the host Kogarah course, then inexplicably missed the two-foot comebacker to fall from contention and miss the final putt-off.
A field of over 110 starters played a well manicured Kogarah course in perfect winter waether conditions.
Another highlight of the day was a magnificant round of 6-under par 66 recorded by Forrest. Playing off a plus-2 handicap he totaled 40 stableford points. Best stableford score of the day belonged to Cronulla's Ted Stone who scored 42 points from his 11-handicap. As can be the way in Shootout Golf events, Stone missed the shootout when his secret six holes failed to total the 13 points needed to make a putt-off for the final place in the eight person Shootout.
The leading ladies score was shot by Massey Park associate Paula Hartigan who had 35 points from her 24 handicap.

The winner of each event will receive a free airfare to compete in a week long golfing extravaganza in Thailand this October.
